Evans for ever
(I welcome the arrival here of St-Loup, secretive man, who practice the spirit of curiosity with the elegance of a prince of the seventeenth century ...)
Actually, the origin of Londonderry air, long remained a mystery. We know he was popular, like a song "patriotic", or recall the origins, the Irish in America, which form a very important community. It differs, I think, the melody itself, and the words:
(Oh Danny Boy, The Pipes, The Pipes are calling From glen to glen
, and down the mountain side The summer's gone
, and All the flowers are dying
'Tis you,' tis you must go and I must bide [...])
written by a famous song writer: Frederick Edward Weatherly (1848-1929). Those wanting more information will come to this address (in English): http://www.standingstones.com/dannyboy.html.
About the great Bill Evans, I will, once again, emphasize the influence of French music from the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, the composers and jazz musicians. It seems to me that I would never say how the sensitivities of these two genera agreed to form the modern sounds. I also remember that Bill Evans followed in Paris, the course of Nadia Boulanger (1887-1979), whose role was instrumental in the careers of many soloists. Sister Lili, gifted composer, who died very young (1893-1918), daughter of Ernest, himself a composer (1815-1900), Nadia Boulanger seemed to hold the key to the mystery melodic and rhythmic French, so important in the history of music. I feel that I get bored, I just wanted to say that humanity, in the end, does not summarize the horrific performances of Muammar Gaddafi. Listen
at http://www.ireland-information.com/downloads/midi/dannyboy.mid, the original version of Londonderry Air, compare with the interpretation of Bill Evans, and swear that you do not see in the grace of a jazz pianist, Debussy's inspiration!
